dear santa,

sela: i want a puppy, and all the things a puppy needs…

KJ: nerf gun, $100, …
Myla: nothing… {this girl never asks for anything!}

kiana: i want a puppy, specifically: an all-white or white-with-black-spots maltese.

north pole breaking news: they are out of puppies. the rhodes kids are going to have an interesting christmas.

dear readers, question: how long did you keep your children’s holiday traditions going? we sit on santa’s lap for our littlest. we do it… just for sela.

pomanders

December 5, 2012

i hosted my annual pomanders party this week. my home was oozing with the scent of oranges and cloves! it was a lovely night.

this is a fun thing to do – have you heard of a pomander? pomanders originated in the medieval times, women would stud oranges with cloves and wear them as a form of sachets to smell good. nowadays people re-create them during the holidays as a festive activity, and then you can put the oranges on display in your home as decorations. set a few in a bowl, hang them around your kitchen… the perk: they smell so good!

how to make a pomander:

  1. tie ribbon around the orange.

home tour

December 4, 2012

i’ve learned in the past sixteen months since we started our boston-adventure that i look forward to moving. new spaces excite me, and i welcome the change. i am addicted to de-cluttering. the less we own, the more simple a room is, the better. just like the excitement that comes with the changing of seasons. i like new walls, new paint, new rooms, and even new neighbors! {not to offend my utah neighbors, we relish the idea of going back to our exact neighborhood if possible one day!!!} i just enjoy meeting new people. don’t get me wrong, buying a home can be a stressful process but the whole excitement and experience of moving into a new environment,

the freedom trail

December 3, 2012

while our friends scott & susan + kiddos were here, we ventured out to walk the freedom trail in downtown boston. we have seen most of the sites on the trail, but our kids had still never walked it.  husband and i walked it a few years back when we were visiting boston.

this particular day was a beautiful, sunny afternoon when we headed out – we planned on walking it by ourselves, then last minute signed up for a tour which turned out to be worth every penny. the guided tours don’t cover the entire trail, but our tour guide was totally into his character which made history a bit more exciting for all the kids…

in case you don’t know,

kiwi crate :: toy review

December 3, 2012

we craft all year, but at this time of year we super-craft. gifts for others, homemade decorations for our home, creative gift-wrapping, and of course festive-crafting-for-oneself because of the love of crafting!

kiwi crate sent us their crafty christmas crate and we are hooked! do you remember getting packages in the mail as a kid? happiness explosion! {i actually still feel this way when i get packages in the mail! ::smiles::} sela went to the post office with me the day this box arrived.  when i told her it was for her – she might have jumped up and down hugging the box nothing short of twenty-five hundred times. before we got back in the car.
