pomanders

December 5, 2012

i hosted my annual pomanders party this week. my home was oozing with the scent of oranges and cloves! it was a lovely night.

this is a fun thing to do – have you heard of a pomander? pomanders originated in the medieval times, women would stud oranges with cloves and wear them as a form of sachets to smell good. nowadays people re-create them during the holidays as a festive activity, and then you can put the oranges on display in your home as decorations. set a few in a bowl, hang them around your kitchen… the perk: they smell so good!

how to make a pomander:

  1. tie ribbon around the orange.

party animals!

October 2, 2012

my sela-bella is six today! and i’m not sure why, maybe because she started kindergarten, but turning six has been a big deal for this girl. she’s been talking about it for months! so, we celebrated like party animals!

for this party, i wanted an invitation that appeared 100% custom and unique, but i didn’t want to do all the work myself.  so, this is what i did: i had a mini photo shoot at home with sela:

to make homemade confetti: use a 1″ hold punch + tissue paper colors of your choice. I recommend having the tissue paper folded in at least 4-6+ layers when punching the holes.

celebrating baby sloane.

July 12, 2012

while i was in utah, we celebrated bex’s baby who debuted in may. i love seeing my friend so happy. she anticipated this little girl with such enthusiasm for so long, and it felt so good to share in her joy for one afternoon…

baby sloane’s nursery is neutrals so i wanted to use the same neutral color scheme for the afternoon – white, natural, brown, and a little dash of pink.

just a few of us got together for a little lunch. i used dandee’s idea here as inspiration for our lunch crates. each crate included: one homemade sandwich wrapped in parchment paper and brown kraft paper tied with a twine bow,

food truck party.

July 10, 2012

Remember that day in June when we celebrated father’s day??? well, the sun came out from behind days and days of rain clouds, and we called all our friends together to celebrate the dads in our lives.

For this party, I wanted to mix traditional New England style with casual party flair. To achieve this I set the table with neutral, classy details – adding chalkboards and neon chalk markers for the kids to doodle. And! For food, we hired a taco food truck that pulled right onto the backyard lawn in the middle of the party scene! Did you know you can hire out most food trucks for private parties?!? This was an entirely new idea to me,

soda bar

June 29, 2012

Have you noticed the new trend to make your own soda at home? SodaStream is everywhere. For father’s day I wanted to set-up a make-your-own soda bar as part of our party, and use this idea without the soda maker appliance. however, I did use the SodaStream syrups for flavoring. Some people prefer to have a mix of their own homemade soda and brands similar to DRY orange bubbly because they like the option and I hear their product is great!

It was a fun way to serve beverages to kids and adults alike.

Using airtight cylindrical bottles, I created homemade labels with this font &

summer barbecue.

June 14, 2012

my kids are finished with school for this year, woo*hoo! while we are putting the final tweaks on our summer plans – i am hoping to enjoy as many barbecues as possible – i love grilling for dinner. I know some people who have never had a barbecue before! I didn’t even think that was possible, especially during the summer, but I guess it is. I’m trying to persuade them to consider getting a barbecue, as they are definitely missing out. Plus, having family and friends over when you’re having a barbecue party is probably one of the best things ever! Here are a few visual ideas for your barbecues this summer. i have had an obsession lately with recycling aluminum cans for projects.
