diy: napkin bows

May 3, 2011

while perusing pinterest, i spotted this darling napkin bow. so, for easter dinner i tried them out! miss thirteen was my assistant, and after we figured out one, she made the rest for me! {i love having older kids who help!}

instructions:

1. cut paper strips that are 8″ long, one-and-a-half inches wide. you can trim them shorter at the end, if you want a tighter center ring. fold the right side of the napkin in towards the center, leaving one inch of space.

2. continue by folding the left side in,

confetti invitations

April 25, 2011

jordan ferney has completely blown my mind again with her creativity! this time, it was with her confetti invitations. i used this tutorial, and created these for kj’s upcoming birthday party…

we have been planning the party with the colors navy blue & turquoise, and stripes, and chevron-designs! kj was so excited to deliver these invites, he couldn’t wait for his friends to twist them open for the little tubes to shoot out the surprise invitation!

i started with these party poppers that jordan recommended-

they were so easy to take apart. we {meaning: kj happily helped,

preparations for kj’s birthday party this week are underway…

our little man is going to be 8!

here’s some easy steps to create flag cupcake/cake/donut {whatever you want to top!} mini toppers + a pennant garland for the top of a cake. kj has requested texas cake and mini donuts for his birthday. i truly believe texas cake is america’s original chocolate cake. and we are fans.

to make the mini toothpick sized flags, fold cardstock in half and cut triangles. i created one i liked, then used it as a stencil to make sure they all turned out the same size…

tumble bunnies.

my kiddos loved this little activity… you can find the template here. after their bunnies tumbled and raced {because almost everything becomes a competition in our family} the activity quickly evolved into an indoor slide!

easter eggs.

April 19, 2011

the hipstamatic run-down of our easter egg-dyeing tradition…

maybe you all know this… but, using food coloring + vinegar/water works wayyyyy better than those little tablets you buy in kits. yeah. i didn’t know that, till this year. and our eggs are more gorgeous than eva!

i live for holidays & special events. so, easter is no exception, and i love everything…the eggs, the spring outfits, wheat grass, the pastel kitchen accessories, baby chicks {like… the real animal!}, the ham dinner.

i love pretending the easter bunny is going to come hopping right through our back yard in front of my older girls even though my excessive enthusiasm is met with rolled eyes by all.

i’m on a crafty marathon around here…

my latest project: the most brilliant art ever created with recycled paper towel & toilet paper rolls! Originally I wanted something similar to this mural wallpaper to decorate the rooms, but then I had a brilliant idea.

i first spotted this wall art last year at my fave local boutique ‘soel.’ my darling friend shelby is the owner, and a couple months ago she hosted a craft night to create these, but i was out of town and couldn’t go…

so, after months of this being on my ‘to-do’ list, i finally *saved enough rolls to get started!
