cross-country road trip!

June 12, 2013

see jane cross america

In sixteen days, our family and house will be packed up and ready to hit the open roads! (at least, that is the plan and I’m really hoping we stay on schedule!!!) Unlike when we moved to Boston, we are going to be moving ourselves back to Utah. As a grand finale to our adventure, we are planning a cross-country road trip! No sarcasm here… I am really truly excited!!!

One member of our family – who shall remain nameless – is a little nervous, however. One of her friends was recently involved in a bad car accident while on a road trip and is currently recovering from her injuries.

welcome guest - water bottle tags via seejaneblog

it’s no new news that i love having guests in our home. and i enjoy doing my best to make sure they feel welcome. so, it just broke my heart when we had company (two sets of guests!) arriving just prior to my three days in isolation this weekend and i didn’t get to spend very much time with them before i had to stay behind closed doors. terrible, terrible timing to be isolated. the second set of guests had to end up staying in a hotel, boo. epic scheduling fail.

while i was preparing for our visitors i really wanted them to know i was excited for their arrival, i wanted them to feel at home,

“a portrait of my children, once a week, every week, in 2013.”

kiana: back in the dance studio…training.
myla: loves tennis, but has a hard time retiring from soccer because when she’s only playing tennis she really misses being a part of a team.
kj: this is a typical outfit lately: shorts, flat-brim, sunglasses that he wears for baseball, and sporty socks to his knees.
sela: believes the one thing bad about leaving boston is that there are no american girl stores in utah. we’ve had one just over four miles from our home,

low-iodine diet

June 8, 2013

coming to you from day two of isolation, my low-iodine diet has come and gone over the past eighteen days. i’m currently planning my first normal meal post-diet for later this morning! you wouldn’t believe how excited i am to have eggs and cheese! i baked my favorite egg casserole two days ago so i could have a slice of it this morning!!!

the unexpected perk of doing this diet was how much i learned about not eating dairy, eggs, soy products, and a few other items. low-iodine is similar to paleo if you’re familiar with that. from day one my body felt incredible. never bloated. never heavy. yes,

kiana: enjoys scary movies. like: the really really scary ones.
myla: told me this week, “smart phones should be solar powered and only use their battery when they are not in sunlight. best idea ever, right?
kj: i was driving home from the sox game last weekend with kj, and sela in the car when kj proceeds to tell me, “did you know girls can orgasm longer and multiple times compared to a boy… the only thing is, i can’t really figure out what an orgasm is.”

Wellesley, massachusetts art in the park via seejaneblog

last weekend our town celebrated wellesley’s wonderful weekend – a weekend packed with small town traditional festive flair. only, we’re really not that small town. only, we are.

kiana was sick all weekend, but the younger three kiddos and i cruised around to all that we could to enjoy the festivities.

community art installation in the park via seejaneblog

my very favorite event was the art in the park. all of the picture frames were donated from our local recycling center – wrapped in ribbons for each artist to weave fabric through the ribbons however you pleased. the fabric was also donated. then the finished hand-weaved frames were attached with zip ties to the entire community project.
