Kiana’s last show –

December 27, 2007

Kiana & all of the party girls were sad to be doing their last show because they all loved it so much, but I was happy & sad it was ending. I was ready/excited for christmas eve, christmas, and the new year – but I loved watching Kiana grow as a dancer from this experience. This is Kiana & Rebecca, one of her friends – the girls are not allowed to have any electronics backstage/etc. during their time at Capitol Theater, so they spent A LOT of time playing cards – here, they are waiting for Rebecca to get picked up after their last performance while I was chaperoning for the 2nd time. Then we snapped two pictures of Kiana as we left…till next year [we hope!]Before Kiana and I made it home from Salt Lake I still had some friend &

Nutcracker chaperone

was my title today. With the responsibility of taking care of the “party girls” pre-show, during, and after – you also get to be backstage while they are performing. It was very cool. The Ballet West dancers are so sweet to the Young Dancers cast.

While Kiana & I did the Nutcracker thing, Dusty took Myla & KJ skiing for the first time this season. He said it was a BEAUTIFUL day and they both did AWESOME, and they LOVE being in the lodge for treats when they are done. Myla came home and taped hand warmers to her feet to help them get warm.

Then the Rodeo began…

Yesterday Kiana had her 5th & 6th shows. She did great – during one of them the conductor of the Utah Chamber Orchestra messed around with the kids a bit. I guess this one particular conductor usually makes faces at them/etc. during the show. The dancers follow his cue on a few parts of the choreography and at one point he had them stand up, kneal, stand back up when they should have only stood up once. It was funny to see him messing around with them. kiana was laughing on stage.

During her matinee and evening show we have 3 hours to kill. Once again, we were SLC tourist – this time we visited the Church History Museum,

Kiana is in a total of 8 shows, #3 & 4 were today – We dropped her off early and hit a place called, “Toasters” for sandwiches, they were REALLY good. They sprinkled basalmic vinegar on the bread, really adds some zest! After her matinee, we headed up to “Backer’s Pastry Shop.” Charming! These cookies were beautiful (as their sign reads), I bought a “rocket ship” for KJ and a “santa” for Myla. As soon as we got home and I gave it to KJ he was blasting it off with sound effects all over the house! The cupcakes were scrumptious! Then we hit a strip of Antique stores (we met our antique store quota for the year.) Dusty found a few ancient “Root beers”

Opening NIGHT!

December 21, 2007

Kiana, on her way to check into the “alley” theater door. She was so excited, but not too nervous. For her first night, Dusty*Myla*KJ* and I went to watch just till her part was done then we sneaked out. She did SO good, and it’s SO fun because she is in the very first scene then about the first 35 minutes!AT intermission, Kiana*Myla*KJ. KJ was so cute. I had been worried about him being too young to be going, but he was totally on the edge of his seat the entire time, especially keeping track of where Kiana was on stage. I was SO emotionally overwhelmed as the curtain raised, this was my baby girl up there!
