massachusetts beaches

September 1, 2012

this summer we were all about celebrating the long-standing-summer traditions we’ve always cherished,
while also reminding ourselves to start a few of our own new ones here in mass.

so. we went hunting for our favorite beach in massachusetts. i tried to find out exactly how many beaches there are in MA, and didn’t have any luck. so, let me tell you – there are a lot. and we’ve made it to five. however, we did visit those five more than once each. sometimes we’d try a new one, and like it so much we’d have to visit it a few times before choosing another new one. my friend told me that there are so many lovely beaches in the california area.

i have found a lot of joy in cooking these days, when time provides itself, in our new home. saying this though, it wasn’t until a friend of mine recommended i checked out something similar to Delhi Baker’s Club that i then became interested properly in cooking. there’s so much you can make that you’ll never get bored.
there is something about cooking that makes a house a home to me. it’s strange, but i never quite feel settled in each new home until i’ve made a few of our staple family meals. how about you? what makes you feel at home in a new place?

i also like dragging my kiddos into the kitchen with me.

exactly fourteen days ago kiana found out her utah dance studio was going to be in nyc that weekend with various families staying at various hotels like the Crowne Plaza Times Square Manhattan. and the next day she was putting in her verbal request for a spontaneous family road trip, two days later.

after a few details were figured out, we woke up early on july 5th and our second road trip to manhattan was underway. a very happy fourteen year old included.

as soon as we pulled into the city, we stopped by tkts and chose six seats to see war horse. i hadn’t heard anything about the play –

food truck party.

July 10, 2012

Remember that day in June when we celebrated father’s day??? well, the sun came out from behind days and days of rain clouds, and we called all our friends together to celebrate the dads in our lives.

For this party, I wanted to mix traditional New England style with casual party flair. To achieve this I set the table with neutral, classy details – adding chalkboards and neon chalk markers for the kids to doodle. And! For food, we hired a taco food truck that pulled right onto the backyard lawn in the middle of the party scene! Did you know you can hire out most food trucks for private parties?!? This was an entirely new idea to me,

one year ago today July 8th, 2011 – our life in Boston began! It’s crazy how fast the time has passed. we get asked all the time if we are liking it here – and yes. we are definitely liking our life in Boston. however, i will say – i think husband, the kids and I could live anywhere and enjoy our experiences. really. it’s in our blood/lifestyle to be optimistic.

First and foremost, can I say I LOVE google maps on my iPhone and i have no idea how we all survived pre-GPS-technology. It has saved me this year.

With that said, here are 10 things we love {and don’t love} about living in Boston:

six flags new england

July 2, 2012

this was my first time to go to a six flags! is that crazy? i didn’t go to any big amusements parks growing up, my parents were kind of over that stage of their lives. And since having our own family, husband and I have done all the disney stuff with our kiddos – disneyland, disney world, disney cruise – so it’s time to break off from our routine and try some new parks! do you have any favorites?

It’s a 90 minute drive from where we live to go to six flags new england, and it was the perfect way to take a break from unpacking boxes and laundry. we had about an hour of rain,
