my myla

September 7, 2008

my Myla has a best boy, his name is Chase.
They have the most darling friendship…
Recently, Chase was in Hawaii and brought Myla home a pair of pearl earrings…
he chose the pearls (in oysters) and had the earrings made for her!

he’s won my heart.

Friday evening, Myla went with Chase’s family to dinner at the Cheesecake Factory.
While there, this conversation took place…

Chase: What if I kiss you before we’re 16?
Jenn {Chase’s Mom}: Remember Chase, Dusty has a gun…
Chase: {eyes as wide as saucers}
Myla: My Dad would be mad, but I think my Mom would be happy for me…

It goes without saying, that when Dusty is not home, challenges arise.

It has been this way, for a decade.

I will deal with my hardest moments when he is on the other side of the world…
every time.

This week is no different. It’s nothing I can’t handle, but nonetheless, it happens.

Last night, if you were in Utah County, you know the winds blew and blew and blew…

My kids and I had a fabulous evening at our dear friends – the Bland home.
When we left their house, I had a phone call from my Mom saying,
“Bonnie called {our neighbor whom the TALL trees belong to}…some more trees came down tonight…”

Sunday night, Dusty said:
“Who wants to camp out on the Balcony with Dad?”
Very quickly, came 3 replies…

“Me!” -Myla
“Me too!” -KJ
“Not me! Mom, Can I sleep with you if Dad’s outside?” -Kiana

Dusty made up very comfy beds out on the balcony for everyone at about 9pm…

By 10pm, the thrill of it all had worn off for KJ and he tip-toed back inside asking me to tuck him into his bed… {Because I was awake – on the computer – digi scrapping}

Right after I tucked KJ into bed I sneaked outside to take a photo –
Within 2 hours,

the past 2 weeks…

went by so fast. I am wishing I could pause time, our kids will be back in school in 17 days…and this year, my 3 oldest will all be in school ALL Day. It’s just going to be Sela and I hanging out all morning/afternoon…so sad my babies are getting so big.

and, the next two weeks are packed with activities, so the time will fly, and summer break will be over… did summers pass this quickly when we were kids?
anyhow…

it is a habit for the kids to run to our mud-room/garage door and greet Dusty or I when we return home from running errands/work/etc.

I pulled in the garage last week and was greeted by KJ and Sela,

Our kids have always been known to make temporary places of sleep all over the house. Whether it be in a tent, fort, on couches, “burritos” in Mom and Dad’s room, whatever it is…they would prefer to sleep anywhere unique instead of their own comfy beds. But, usually their temporary beds last for one night, two nights, maybe three. Then they return to their rooms until the next in-house camp-out takes place.

Right outside our {Dusty & Jane’s} bedroom we have a double-door linen closet.

Across the hall {about 6 feet away} from this linen closet is a single-door linen closet.

Six weeks ago, KJ decided to make his own “house”
