boston ballet

September 28, 2011

…during the planning stages of moving from utah to out east, where our girls would dance was number two on the list of important details to figure out. {this detail followed “how close can we live to fenway park.”}

i started dance classes when i was about ten years old – and, at the time i also loved sports. in the end, dance was my passion. is my passion, following art. yet, i also love my knowledge of sports and enjoy balancing all of the above.

as parents, i think we all want to give our kids opportunities that we missed out on. we want to gather all the good from our past –

boston came to visit

September 28, 2011

…a few weeks ago.

shannon & cory brought boston {their 12-year old son} out here for a special birthday trip for his 12th birthday. it was time he visited his namesake city! boston and myla have grown-up with each other at home, and of course shannon & cory are dear friends.

we visited newberry street + went trail running together one morning + played lots of blokus + went shopping + had a little karaoke-concert by the kiddos, sela made a sign for her band, it was called “tea & the band” and she set-up her tea set for us during the show – hilarious little girl! + spent a morning at nahant beach. the taylor family also did lots of other sight-seeing while our kiddos were in school &

news to me: it is a massachusetts state law, that as a parent, you are not allowed to take photos of your child, their school, or any of the activities/events. this is to protect the children/parents from unwanted exposure.

so, i will not be posting any photos this year of such events.

however, when sela started her preschool this fall, because she was a brand-new-student, she was required to attend two “visits” prior to school starting. during these visits i was told it was the only time i could photograph her at school + one of her teachers. so, i took advantage of the opportunity —

these visits were organized by the school for her to go through their entire daily routine in about half-the-time,

the temple

September 27, 2011

…each time we are driving on the massachusetts turnpike, there comes a certain point that husband says,

“there’s….the temple!”

and, each time i look up – looking for the temple.

only, each time i’m just-dyed-blonde-enough to fall for his little game.

because, obviously, he means… fenway park. his temple. ::smiles::

the kids totally know what he’s talking about, they don’t even acknowledge his little joke anymore.

the last time we passed, i grabbed my camera to try & snap a couple pictures while we passed,
because i do love this view of fenway.

i didn’t get the best shot since we were driving so fast…

boston by bicycle

September 27, 2011

we are not a very outdoorsy family by most definitions of outdoorsy.

we are a sportsy-active-family, but we avoid most camping/hiking/biking/anything that has’t to do with the REI-store-in general.
it’s just better that way. most of the times we’ve attempted river rafting, camping, biking – it ends in some sort of disaster.

having that said, i will still get the occasional itch to do something outdoorsy.

this time, it involved me BEGGING my family all day to go on a bike ride.
no one wanted to go.

husband actually told me in the middle of the afternoon,
“it just sounds so difficult & inconvenient…”

our weekend with irene.

September 26, 2011

we prepared…

then we waited, and waited, and waited for the eye of the storm…
while waiting:
we walked in the rain,
we did a little more unpacking,
we cleaned the house,
we cooked lots of food,
we filled our bath-tubs to store extra water,
we were lazy…

and, not much else happened.

in our neck of the woods, lots of old trees fell. tree branches were broken and covered the streets and yards,
but nothing more that couldn’t be cleaned up in a day.

…quite simply, it turned out to be two solid days of rain, giving us a good reason to stay inside.
