swim party.

June 27, 2011

each of our kids had a swimming-going-away-party at our home with their friends. we used a color-theme for each party, and kept things really simple. kj wanted his party to have lots of color + a swim theme, so we made mini-gummy-candy-kabobs using swedish fish, and orange peach circles as floaties + beachy cupcakes + pizza + colorful popsicles… it turned out really cute & was so quick to prepare for.

these boys were crazy! i lined them up for this picture & without me knowing they planned to all jump in the pool on “2” when i said, “ok, 1…2…3… say cheese!” everyone jumped in the pool on 2! so, we did a re-take and they were good!

eight years ago, this little man came into our life.

and on wednesday of this week, we celebrated our gator, in true-kj-fashion with all of his favorite things…

blue + turquoise + stripey things everywhere + donuts + texas cake + ice cream dots + cream soda + hawaiian punch + lots of boy-inspired gifts such as lego’s/rockets/nerf guns/and balloons stuffed with money! + all the people he loves + video games.

the day was beautiful. weather around here is sketchy in springtime. rain or snow one day & sunshine the next. and, we’ve had lots of the rain & snow lately.

but, wednesday?

the clouds flew away and the sun was bright.

do you plant wheat grass? if you get it planted any day this week, it should be the perfect length by april 24th. instructions to plant wheat grass are simple…

  • use good soil.
  • fill your planter/pot/jar almost to the top with soil. i like to go about 1″ from the top. or, use a thin layer of soil. this is your choice – you do not have to have a lot of soil to grow the grass. i have had success using pots with drainage and without.

on thursday evening, i hosted a book club at my home. {i think we could also be dubbed, “eating club.” lol!} this past month we read, ‘the education of little tree‘ by forrest carter which was my book choice. the book itself offers a perspective of life as a cherokee indian boy {named – little tree} being raised by his grandparents during the depression. i tend to be drawn to books that offer any perspective i haven’t considered – be it cultural, a different time period, etc.

most everyone liked the book – we just need to do a little research now to find out which events/happenings are based on fact & what is fictional…

♥ a teen-y party ♥

March 2, 2011

ohhh, where to begin…

let me start a few months back. i had explained to kiana for months previous to her birthday, that we were simplifying everything this year – meaning: honey, you’re old enough that we can downsize with your birthday party. and, being the mature young woman that she is, she was totally content with that. she didn’t expect anything.

then, about a month ago, i told her:
ok, we will plan a fun afternoon with some of your besties. and that’s it.

and, she was ecstatic. couldn’t wait!

we made these invitations, she delivered them to eight friends &

crush party 2011.

February 14, 2011

we started the week of love with a crush party.

the crepe bar was the highlight of the evening. to keep things simple, i made most of the crepes before the party started {our family recipe, here.} then we had each guest bring the toppings. we served dinner crepes with everything from turkey, cheese, peppers, spinach, and mushrooms.

for dessert crepes we had all the fixings: fresh berries, ice cream, whipping cream, caramel, nutella,
