activity days

December 3, 2008

they finished their needlepoints! the girls worked so diligently on this project, we spent 4 weeks/about 6 hours or more stitching…
My friend Lu did the cutest project with her kids, and we put the idea to use today…button bookmarks! The girls made at least 6 {or more} each. Then they boxed up some of them for their families for Christmas presents…
after our bookmarks they made rudolph the red-nosed {or green, blue, yellow} reindeer treats. This idea also comes from the ever-resourceful Family Fun magazine…All you need is:
one Nutter Butter cookie
a pretzel for the horns
chocolate chip eyes
M&M nose
use white frosting to stick on the eyes &

November book reports

November 30, 2008

I think I’ve mentioned this before but I love how creative my kids get to be at their school with book reports! I would have LOVED to do a book report like this when I was a kid, I only remember standing in front of the class and talking about the books I had read… so blah.

Kiana read, “Deep, Dark, and Dangerous” by Mary Downing Hahn this month and made a really cool diagram that had a river going through it. For the river she used my kitchen “glad” lids, cut out in the shape of the river and filled it with Vaseline to look like water running through it. so creative!
Myla read “Ruby the red fairy”

my activity day girls {and KJ} made these little treats at the end of their activity today…

they had lots of fun, and it’s a snitch to make!
You need:
half an oreo cookie on the bottom
one whole oreo cookie for the back
one whopper for the head
3 candy corns for the tail feathers
1 candy corn for the beak
use icing to make the eyes.

the girls even gave their turkey’s hairdo’s!

this week…

November 16, 2008

This past Friday when I picked the kids up from school…

Mom: “KJ, guess what?!?”
KJ: “what?”
Mom: “YOU WON the radio costume contest!”
KJ: {big eyes, mouth drops open in astonishment, pause}
KJ: “THAT is awesome!” {arms in the air}

{I had already explained to him how everyone had to vote from their own home computers, etc. etc…}

KJ: “First I am going to go to Nate’s house, knock on the door and tell them thank you. Then I’m going to go to Tegan’s house and knock on the door and tell them thank you, then Caden’s house…”

{You get the idea, he wants everyone to know he’s very THANKFUL for the votes!

Kiana and Myla competed this weekend at Hillcrest high school.

It was a very fun afternoon, Myla and Ammon were adorable but didn’t make any call backs this time. Kiana and Tristen had a fabulous time and did really great!

Myla & Ammon-
Kiana & Tristen-
It was so fun because in the final rounds Ezra Sosa/Charity; Stephanie Sosa/her partner; and Kiana/Tristen Sosa were the final two couples for the 1st/2nd positions a few times. At one point the Master of Ceremonies commented, “It’s the brothers again!” so cute.

grandparents day…

November 6, 2008

It was grandparents day at Ivy Hall Academy today. Our kids were so lucky to have the one grandma and the one grandpa they have in attendance. We are so lucky to be a close-knit family that spends so much time together. Even when we aren’t together we still keep in contact. I was even thinking of getting something like this easy cell phone for elderly people, to make keeping in a contact a lot easier as well, as I know that my Papa sometimes struggles with using his phone (although he would never admit to it). I recently took Papa to get his portrait done after finding some really good senior portraits Austin examples online.
