nycda – mobile, alabama

October 26, 2010
miss twelve and i spent our weekend in mobile, alabama.

she attended a dance workshop there, with nycda.

three years ago, she set a goal, i mentioned it here and here.

well, now she is at the top of the junior age category, and we are working towards her goal…once again.

these six dancers: kiana {12}, darby {14}, jenna {16}, zoey {17}, justin {16}, and ruger {16} all had similar goals this weekend…

and they all met those goals! all six of these kids went to NYCDA Alabama & earned ‘outstanding dancer’ scholarships in each of their age divisions for nationals in new york city in july!

.....

so, i walked down the hall, turned the corner, and found daddy throwing these munchkins across our room, into a ginormous pile of pillows!

…they had raided the linen closet, {pulled out almost every pillow we own},
and later that night i found this picture on my camera…

the calm, after the storm. watching tv.

they sure love it when daddy is home!

“chocolate” pancakes…

October 19, 2010
my charming friend, summer, gave our family a bundle of gifts on october 1st for a
“happy october” – thank you, thank you summer!

one of the gifts were these adorable halloween pancake molds!

we put them to use last week…

when it comes to pancakes, i always burn the first one or the first few –
it’s because my griddle is just soooo hot, and i need to slow-down and be more patient…
as i was thinking about this, i remembered my mother-in-law always calling burnt pancakes, chocolate pancakes

we made our annual-october trip to lagoon a couple weeks ago
for frightmares.

while there, we visited pioneer village,
and took an old-fashioned family picture…

we had done this once before,
in 2004~

and now, six years later…
in 2010!
wow. how our family has changed!
{i wish i still looked that young!}
…husband said we need to keep the tradition alive,
and go get a picture taken again, in six years…
our kids will be 10,

to keep our feet warm!
{i consider this a motherly-duty.}

when kj was four years old,
i was helping him one winters day to get his ugg boots on…
while doing so, he told me,

“mom, my feet go in there & go to sleep…”

a perfect description.

i spent two days last weekend, with our new *uggs lined up on the back patio,
giving them two generous coats of water & stain repellent.
…i must take good care of them!

i thought they looked beautiful just all lined up, out there!

bring on the cold!!!

it’s sela’s birthday.
today.
the celebration of her birth day,

the single day, every year that is our day {and most often, in rhodes tradition, our week} to celebrate sela. for every blessed gift her life has given us. a day, that this over-reflective momma spends my day reminiscing, focusing on who she is, what i’ve learned from her, how i’ve changed, what i want for her,
and what she means to us.

we’ve had four years of nights with her warm little body pressed into our backs
as she breathes deeply and dreams.
{and also kicks,
