graysmarsh farm

September 19, 2012

from seattle we took a ferry and headed up to Sequim where my sister lives.

our kiddos were fascinated by the ferry’s that you actually drive your car on, park, and cruise across the water.

our first morning in sequim {pronounced s-q-w-i-mmm} we headed out to graysmarsh farm to pick berries. picking berries was a big part of my childhood in the pacific northwest. however, we didn’t ever go to farms to pick berries. my dad would find good patches of wild blackberries, then i’d spend my weekend picking till my hands were stained purple. We would keep some for ourselves, and the extra berries i would sell to the local berry shed for about 25 cents a pound.

my kinfolk

September 12, 2012

We returned home ten days ago from our very favorite family vacation yet. and, with the whirlwind of jumping back into Fall schedules and routines i’ve been reminiscing how wonderful our trip was and wishing just a bit that we were still there.

this trip served three purposes.

one: i was raised in Montesano, Washington with a good deal of time spent all-over the state as a child due to the fact my kinfolk were scattered all-over the Northwest. Since my Dad passed away on 9/9 – two days before 9/11 {it was a very emotional week in 2001.}, I have not been back to visit family, or friends since his funeral.

a quiet spot.

while on our trip to southern california, we spent one evening hiking in the hills up behind laguna beach. our cousin has a quiet spot up there, and we wanted to see it —

the great thing about being a guest, is that you get to discover the beauty of other places and fall in love with the culture and people who live there. laguna beach is a sun-kissed town filled with people who glamorously accessorize the sandy beaches. the hills are a quiet refuge with beautiful views of what lies below.

one particular hill has a special spot on top –

*new to me*

July 16, 2012

myla and i have been home twelve hours since our cross-country flight from Los Angeles. I just spent the week in southern california while my twelve year old attended tennis camp. We split our time between Laguna Beach where we stayed in a studio guest apartment with family, Newport, and Irvine. when we arrived last week, i instantly learned that husbands cousin had written a book! this was new to me. somehow, this big news had missed being passed on and i was thrilled to get my hands on a copy. four copies actually.

this cousin is a rockstar. she’s one of those relatives that my girls admire, and when she spends time with us she gives them little female-pep-talks about staying away from boys,

from what i understand, some momma’s look forward to grocery shopping sans kids. i’m not a big fan of grocery stores – however, i can totally relate when in a different situation. i look forward to my time on airplanes sans kids. especially when wifi is involved!

our dog kaymen, 16 years old is suffering from old age – so sad. | my first time to hold baby sloane.
