last friday my little man turned nine! his birthday decor theme was neon + neutrals, so i used brown kraft paper + washi tape + post-it notes to decorate his bedroom door.

come back later today to see more neon + neutrals from his family breakfast birthday party!

striped bow garland

we are renting a home with eight bedrooms. and if {not if, when…} we ever move i doubt we’ll ever have this many bedrooms again! there are four bedrooms on the second floor + four bedrooms on the third floor.  when we arrived last summer i was still skeptical about the safety of living in a bigger city, so i made all our kids choose bedrooms on the second floor near the master bedroom so in case of an emergency i had everyone close to me.  this forced our older two daughters to share a room because neither of them wanted to be in a room with toys from their younger siblings! ha! this room-sharing lasted for our first seven months in bean town.

my myla received this little money origami kit from kj for her birthday in december.

she has become a little pro at folding dollars. so, her latest interest is creating something out of dollar bills when her friends have birthdays. i like when my kids get involved with creating part of their gifts, whether the entire item is homemade or just part of it, it’s so much more heartfelt. for myla’s latest money origami, she found the tutorial on youtube and made a butterfly out of two dollar bills — {this one is super easy!} plus one pipe cleaner.

brown kraft paper crafts

February 21, 2012

i finished my last craft projects for the {utah} blogger meet ‘n greet yesterday afternoon and right now our family is en route to utah! in fact, i am posting this from 30,000 feet. wi-fi on airplanes is genius, people. kudos (and kisses!) to whoever figured that out.

all of these projects below are easy do-it-yourself goodies. take a look –

bless my oldest two daughters, they were a huge help this past week in making it possible for me to manage life + conquer my craft-to-do’s! we made {mostly myna’s work} a couple dozen of my yarn-wrapped kraft bags + added these new martha stewart chalkboard labels.

design fort, a new series…

February 17, 2012

you may have noticed that over the years, i have posted a lot of pictures including “forts” around our house – hidden beds in closets + myla’s indian-style outdoor stick forts {this one was extra unique!} + piles of pillows to hide in + poolside beach towels hanging over chairs. i’ve been reflecting on how rad the “fort” is in a childs life as they are growing up. it gives them a sense of privacy and their own space. building these little pieces of kid-size architecture fuels their creativity.

i thought it would be fun to introduce a new series for see jane blog!
