my cute little owl

October 25, 2009

is my first finished project in my sculpture class!

first we had to choose an animal .
then we had to make a maquette out of clay.
next we poured our plaster into 1/2-gallon waxed cartons,
and once the plaster was set we started chipping away with
chisel & hammer… till our little animals were shaped.
last we let it air dry and sanded away.

this project was so fun for me, total therapy to attend class and work on my little owl. i could make plaster owls all semester. how cute would a whole set be!?!

now we’re working on clay figures of the head,

an even more affordable alternative –

card board sewing, idea from here.“Just cut out simple shapes from cardboard and punch holes in it. (In and of itself a fun activity.) Wrap tape around a piece of yarn or ribbon to make it easier to thread and ta-da! Toddler sewing. ”

felt headbands

May 10, 2009

our kitchen counter ~ all weekend…myla made some felt headbands to “sell” at school this coming week. Her class has been earning fake money for good behavior, good work, etc.

the plan is to have a class store full of their own items to purchase from one another to wrap up an economics unit. hopefully they learn well and this next generation can make sure the economy doesn’t get in the mess we are in now – again.

one of Myla’s “rolled” felt flowers headband
i had to get in on the action & create a few too-this project was temporary and is not going to take-over our life unlike the last flower clips project.

lookie, lookie!

affordable & so so easy!

these little “FELT” kits are currently at Roberts craft store for only

$3.99 each!

they also come in pink, purple, and a a tote-style bag…

AND, if you use your 40% off coupon, imagine how inexpensive they are!!!

Myla & Bree had fun designing each of their own bags, but I do recommend using a hot glue gun to apply the felt, it’s not going to stay in place any other way…
