what’s on my mind for 2009…

I have never been one to make new years resolutions. I feel that I am too goal oriented already, I have to-do’s rushing around my head constantly for the minute, hour, day, week, month, year…you get the idea. I even have to-do’s in my head for everyone else in my family.
To add “news years resolutions” almost feels like too much pressure.
But, this year, I am going to do it.
Because 2009 is going to be great!

To start, I have re-enrolled in college. Yep, I am going back to school! I made this decision about seven days ago. I’m excited and a wee bit nervous for the craziness this is going to cause my family. I have my associates degree in general business, and I’m going back to finish a bachelors of fine arts, with an emphasis in graphic design…I honestly can’t wait. I have about 8 pre-req’s I have to finish before getting into the program, but they sound exciting. I have two art history classes, photography, drawing, design, etc. etc. UVU, here I come! {even my college upgraded itself this past year!}

so, my first new years resolution is to be a good student!

next, I am going to go forward with being more green. I made some adjustments in 2008. I spent months canceling junk mail, we now have recycle trash bins, but more is going to happen this year. I have been reading “Gorgeously Green,” and you don’t need to be a full-on hippie to be more green, I recommend everyone should get a copy!

third, make more home cooked meals, and order less take-out.

fourth, I have to stop avoiding the fact that I need to potty train my 4th child. There’s no way around it. By december 31st, 2009 my diaper buying years will be over.

fifth, sugar rehab, once again. The holidays are so terrible. Starting TODAY, I am not eating sugar.

sixth, call my guitar teacher and start lessons. again. This time around, my goal is to practice, practice, practice, no matter how sore my fingers get!

seventh, continue to blog. more. I am not a scrap-booker, or journal writer, so this is the only family history we have.

eighth, shop less. this could take serious therapy. hopefully having homework to do will detour my shopping habits.

That’s a good list for now, I may add more later…

    K. so Caryn gave me that book! I like it but i am not ready to throw away my hair stuff and my Mac! Unless Mac is going green. haha

Way to go with your resolutiions!!

  2. I totally support the college thing. I went back to BYU and finished while I was pregnant with number two, and even though it was tough, I have never regretted it.

And as for the potty training thing, I’ve had four amazing successes with the book Toilet Training In Less Than A Day. Love it. HIGHLY recommend it. Any questions, just email me – I’ll give you all my secrets…

  3. Jane, you are my hero! I think going back to school after a long break is one of the hardest things to do, especially when you have so many responsibilities pulling you in different directions. Your major choice is so interesting – a great way to channel all of your creative energy. Keep us posted and what it’s all like… can’t wait to hear about it!

  4. I love your ambition Jane! That is fantastic that you are going back to school! I’d really like to do the same in a couple of years. If anyone can juggle it all, it’s you!

  5. I’m totally jealous about you going back to school. I just think one day when the kids are a bit older I can go back and take some fun and interesting classes. I too will be hopefully getting baby girl out of diapers sometime this year. I am so excited about not having any diapers in the house!

  6. I wrote this comment already and forgot to press submit I guess. Anyway, yay UVU, that’s my school too! (I’m taking online classes this semester) Sounds like some pretty cool goals for 2009.

Anyway, our LONG, FAR trip plan got foiled and is now a very short trip plan and I’ll be back by in February so let me know if you’re going to need any help (:

  7. Wow, good for you. That is amazing you want to go back to school. I have always wanted to have a degree but I don’t want to go back:) Good Luck!!

  8. That is an awesome list Jane! Congrats on deciding to go back to school, your classes sound great! I was so happy to finally graduate last year. I will need to check that “green” book out, it sounds like a good one! Now that we are home and getting back to “normal” I need to start thinking about some resolutions too!

  9. Wow Jane, that’s awesome that you are going back to school. Some day when my kids are a little older I hope to do that too. So fun! Good luck with your classes. It was nice to finally meet you. You are so sweet in person and gorgeous too! Hopefully it won’t be the last time we meet. Happy New Year! You have inspired me to try some of those same resolutions.

  10. Jane! Is today your birthday?? I’m sure you’re off doing something so fun. I just wanted to write in and tell you that I hope you had a wonderful day! I have LOVED getting to know you this last year. I think you are truly amazing and wonderful in every way! Happy Happy Birthday:)
