Friends!!! For those of you who might be new to SeeJaneBlog – our family resided in Utah for fifteen years from 1996-2011, then we moved to Boston, Massachusetts for two years in 2011-2013. Then returned to Utah in July of 1013… Nineteen months ago. After nonstop projects during this time, and more projects currently underway I am ready to start a tour around our home! I plan on sharing our home in sections – starting with the entry and living room.
First of all, this home is fairly unique and came to be ours in a unique way too. Our last Utah home is only ten houses away down the road from where we now live. When we previously lived in Utah I had my eye on our current home, and when we decided to return to Utah after living on the East coast I found out it was for sale, and we instantly pursued it.
The home is a 1960’s rambler that was remodeled by the owners we purchased it from. They spent about three years gutting it in 2008-2011, redesigning the interior, exterior, and the property. The home was in the parade of homes in 2011 after it’s initial remodel so if you are local – you might remember it. The finished result: a mix of original ideas using modern, industrial, steam punk, and mid-century modern styles that blend well in the Utah mountains. Believe me when I say that the Utah mountains are a glorious place to live, and since there are so many Lots for Sale/New Homes and Land in Ogden Valley, you should definitely consider this life for yourself.
The family we bought it from had a toddler and baby, and our kids are older so we’ve spent time re-decorating bedrooms. For example, two rooms and a bathroom were painted floor to ceiling with murals of an aquarium, fish, jungles scenes, and more. The home was also not maintained as well as it could have been from 2011-2013 as it sat vacant during some of this time, so we’ve been repairing structural damage, restaining wood, finishing areas that were not finished, and working to make it our own. A little more cozy with clean lines. I tend to gravitate to a very neutral color palette with natural elements. And, I preach less is more when it comes to home decor – the older I get the less I want to spend time maintaining “stuff”. I’ve spent the past nineteen months searching for eclectic pieces that work well together. Looking at pieces similar to what Shuttercraft provide. Some vintage, some new. And while it’s not perfect by any interior design theories – I’m very comfortable with where it’s at. It fits our family well. I love design and decorating our home but I also find it to be incredibly self-absorbing and when too much time and fuss goes on in the process I get burnt out and want to stop thinking about all of it for a long time. I hit that wall in the past couple of months so everything is as it is and it will stay that way for a while. Other things to focus on now!

The blend of modern with natural colors and just touch of bohemian sensibility, makes your home such a warm and welcoming space. It’s probably also the lady of the house that makes it an easy place to be. xo
I’d love to know more about the original owners. The steampunk/industrial vibe was so progressive for 2008, especially in the suburbs. Love it!
I’ve read your blog for years (friend of a friend of a friend), and have admired how you seem to reinvent your furnishings depending on the home you live in. Do you start from scratch with each home, or have you just repurposed old furniture? In either case, any tips? Is there a method to your decorating madness, because I really like how you’ve evolved.
