our grand and glorious weekend in alamo…

this weekend, our story began with dusty’s high school reunion.

…his twenty-first reunion, which included an entire decade of class reunions

in his small town nevada. 1985-1994.

we attended an adults~only dinner, and the homecoming football game, friday night lights! husbands 1A school plays 8-man, pvhs won somewhere around 58-0… go panthers!

we attended an alumni volleyball game, where kiana and i played and we all had fun.

there was an alumni basketball game, where the kids ruled the gym
between the scoreboard and microphone…

there was a potluck at the city park with bounce houses, and delicious food…

we took 30 boxes of chocolate covered cinnamon bears to share our love…

and, we had priceless family time between it all—

and, we overloaded ourselves on sugar highs…
we are all suffering from the sugar-sickness now…

and…

and…

and…

we love alamo.
the people.
the land.
the goodness we squeeze from it.

here is our weekend in pictures~

if i had a nickel…

…for every time…

…i looked at my family…

…and thought to myself,
‘i’m the most blessed person on the face of the earth’…

well, i’d be rich…

*****

while lizard hunting on sunday afternoon, i was walking with sela near my brother-in-laws chicken coop…

we’d been told they’d seen two rattlesnakes by the chickens…

sela: “momma, if you see a snake… will you step on it?”

moi: “no… if we see or hear a snake, i’m gonna pick you up and run like hell!”

sela: “oh. that’s a good idea mom! pick me up, and run up the hill!”

{hehe}

*****

wide open spaces.

perfect for miss twelve and her driving obsession!

she was able to drive, pass a few cars in town, used her blinker wisely, pulled in to a gas station to get fuel, and spent about 30 minutes on the highway this trip!

she’s one excellent driver in training!

…speaking of grand and glorious, our weekend in alamo was just that.

  1. Grand and glorious were never words I would think to put with Alamo. It is a charming quaint place. My grandma grew up in caliente in a one bedroom house with 13 children. My great aunts still live in Alamo. I haven't gone in years but I love to visit. I don't know where you found a bakery. Last time I was there there was one restaurant. The locals could still rack up a "tab" at the store.

  2. what! haha, how can Kiana drive?? I wish i could have started that young, Kiana will be pro before she has her license.

  3. No one ever believes me when i tell them the desert is beautiful. it is beautiful. beyond beautiful. Love it. PS… my first (none legal) driving experiences also took place in Alamo. 🙂

  4. Great great great pictures! And I have a special fondness for your photo of your lazy afternoon snuggles. And yes! you should run like hell up that hill 😉

  5. great pictures… i can't believe your kids were treasure hunting in the dessert!! SNAKES! ugh…

could your kids be any cuter, i have a fondness of them as well.
I love seeing kiana driving all by herself. this is not the first time. she will be so experienced. love it!

looks like a great weekend in alamo!

  6. You got some great pics. You are turning into quite the photographer! And I can't believe Kiana was driving?! She looks so grown up. She will be one of those kids who graduates high school at 16 and then travels the world with some professional dance company or broadway show. 🙂

  7. Oh Jane, I adore you. What a lovely family trip. And I think Sela's quip may become my catch phrase, too funny, "pick me up and run up the hill!!!"
