A portrait of my children, once a week, every week, in 2015.

Happy New Year, friends!

With my recent return to blogging, I’ve decided to restart the “52 project” – I started it in 2013, and went for almost ten months. Now looking back I absolutely love seeing those photos and what I wrote about my kids each week. It’s a fun, great, memorable way to keep track of kids at various ages. I encourage you all to consider trying it. So, starting with week one of January, our family has spent a lot of time talking about resolutions and goals in the past few weeks. We’ve discussed personal resolutions and family resolutions. We’ve had conversations about small things and big things. Tonight my husband gave our family a lesson that related to the book Crucial Conversations. I will share a post with my resolutionss, and our families real resolutions later this week – but with this book in mind, one of our family goals is to all learn to communicate better. Have you read the book?

For this weeks photos, I asked each of my kiddos while I was taking their pictures above:

What is your New Years resolution? and here are their immediate responses:

Kiana: I don’t know. I’m not really into goals and stuff.
Myla: I don’t know, I don’t have one yet. Oh wait. I want to beat Sailor at tennis, and be able to run two miles on a treadmill at level 9 the entire time. Right now I can do one mile on 9 the whole time.
KJ: instantly started singing To be AWESOME!!! Very, very awesome! And also super cool! with dance moves.
Sela: To quit dance. With a very serious face. Then a smile.

I want to share one more photo of Sela… After discussing resolutions on and off over the last few weeks, Sela was really thinking about hers on our flight home from Mexico. She was sitting in the seat next to me when I looked down at her iPhone and saw that she had been typing herself a few notes. I also noticed some adorable misspellings and before she corrected the errors, I begged her to allow me to take her picture:

“New Years Wevaloshins”

If you click on the link, it has four items like, “Do my best in school, Be awesome (after hearing that was KJ’s reply earlier in the week!, etc etc) Then after she has “Sea Olivia” (attn: Shannon Taylor) if you click on that link, there are three bulleted tabs:

  1. Sea Olivia more often.
  2. Take videos with her all year
  3. At end of year make flipagram

That just about did me in – it was all too cute and sweet!

I’ve recently been reading a LOT of motivational/goal setting quotes, but the one that has really stuck with me this past week is by Elder Russell M Ballard,

I am so thoroughly convinced that if we don’t set goals in our life and learn how to master the techniques of living to reach our goals, we can reach a ripe old age and look back on our life only to see that we reached but a small part of our full potential. When one learns to master the principles of setting a goal, he will then be able to make a great difference in the results he attains in this life.

The line learn how to master the techniques of living resonates so deeply with me.

Lets all master living in 2015, friends. cheers! xo.

  1. Do you have an email I can reach you at to ask a personal question? Or is it best to just reach you here? Sorry to be so buggy but I have had something I’ve wanted to ask you for awhile now. You know with all the extra time you have on your hands! Thank you

  2. Master the techniques of living and master the principles of setting a goal!
This resonates with me as I start a new chapter this year. Thank you for sharing. Happy 2015!
