cujo

has anyone seen “CUJO” by stephen king… story about a crazed rabied dog that attacks and kills everything.

well, 2 nights ago dusty and i decided to continue our “couch Potato to 5k” training… the night before we had walked for 5 minutes, ran for 90 seconds, walked for 90 seconds, ran for 3 minutes, walked for 3 minutes and then repeated… melody, shannon child, spicy {our overacheiving marathoner friends}… stop laughing at our lack of jogging prowess. anyway, we walked up to carterville because there “ain’t no way” my husband was gonna run up that little hill. we turned south and began to jog… it was pitch dark {who came up with that phrase anyway? what is pitch?? iI’ll google it later} and we were just passing the stop sign when all of a sudden this incredibly large canine with a head so big it’s “a virtual planetoid… it has it’s own weather system” cocked his head, gave a vicious bark and started to approach us angrily. dusty knew this dog from a service project he had with the elders quorum and immediately freaked… there was a 3-4′ rock wall to the left of us and Dusty promptly grabbed me with his right arm and threw me over it.

WE’VE NEVER BEEN ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THAT WALL… WE HAVE NO IDEA WHAT IS THERE!

i dropped about 7 feet and landed on rocks and brush with my knee while my face went into an aspen (thanks for saving me my knight in shining armor). he dropped in right behind me, landing perfectly because noone had uprooted him and tossed him over like a cabbage patch doll. i started crying and said, “What the FREAK!” when all of a sudden two black labs started barking and sprinting towards us from the neighbors lot we had just crashed into. i jumped onto dusty’s back as he yells to our neighbor to call them off just in time… phew…
it was a glorious night… 🙂

  1. OUCH! At least you can move on knowing that a dog bite would have been TEN TIMES worse but still… Hope you are not in to much pain!

  2. Oh, my goodness! I would of been crying too. 🙂 Nice to know you have such a protective husband!! I have to say it's a funny story to tell 😉

  3. Oh my gosh! Judging by your knees Dusty's adrenaline was really going! There is nothing more terrifying than an angry dog! I've got the scar on my face to prove that one. I hope your knee feels better 🙂

  4. Oh man, yes, dogs and runners do NOT mix. I have plenty of stories like that one!
(Don't give up little runner women, just carry some pepper spray on your next run, ha! 🙂

  5. I'm sorry that you were injured in the making of this story, but it's good stuff. I had a great laugh picturing your husband throwing you to safety . . . or what he thought was safety. Maybe he did actually save you. My older sister has a huge scar on her leg from a dog bite she received while innocently riding her bike.

  6. Oh boy, do i know that dog! Ugh… now your going to hate running just like that River rafting stuff. hahaha
So sorry, but way to go Dusty on chucking you over the rock wall…your poor knees…
