swim lessons

June 19, 2008

Myla & Elizabeth {our neighbor & Myla’s dearest friend} are in their last swim class together, Myla will be finished after this year. Her class focuses on swim strokes, form, speed, breathing, and diving. Myla has always been fearless in the water and is doing great! I know a lot of kids who started swimming lessons early with companies like Baby Paddlers and I think it’s a good idea to get them started early. Swimming is a great exercise and it’s fun, so why not start them early.

KJ, he loves his swim class. His teachers name is “Missy,” and all day long he talks about her.

She has been working on this for weeks in art class, and each week she has been so excited to share with me how much she progressed, etc. etc.

So, you can only imagine how excited she was this week as she came running out of class with her artwork to show me!

This was one of those moments, where I was in awe, I was so proud…the Rhodes art gallery has begun!

Orem Summerfest

June 15, 2008

Kiana & Myla performed at the park for Orem Summerfest, they both did great and had a lot of fun. Many of our family members, friends, & neighbors came to support them. THANK YOU! Afterwards, we spent a couple of hours walking around and going on rides. Kiana & Myla love “Gravitron” and KJ loves playing carnival games till Mom & Dad are broke, no joke. Sela is just happy to be with everyone.

Our neighborhood biked to Borders today for story time. It was so much fun. We had a big caravan. 4 Moms & 15 kids, w-o-w.

The kids, divided by age are having a kids book club for the summer. Each age group decided on their books together while the younger kids participated in story time. This idea comes from the “Family Fun” magazine. After they read their books in 2 weeks, we are going to have a follow-up activity with either movies and themed games based on the books they are reading.

Shannon Taylor was the photographer today, and more pictures are on Shannon’s blog, but here’s a few she sent me…

a dream come true…

June 10, 2008

We rode our bikes today down Carterville Rd., then the Provo River trail to “Color Me Mine,” spent about 90 minutes painting pottery and then rode our bikes back home. It was perfect weather. I was riding next to Myla at the beginning of our ride, and I told her about one of my dreams. I wanted to grow up, have daughters, and ride bikes with them…it’s such an amazing feeling when moments like this take place.Kiana, Myla, and two friends Shae & Elizabeth

my girls rock…

at climbing!

They are half-way through their week of camp, and loving it!I stopped by to visit them during camp time today and they were just finishing up snack/lunch time. They were playing with a short rope, jump-roping to…”helicopter…helicopter…” I always love to see that some things about little girls growing up never change…Then they had to show me some of their hanging skills with the same rope-Besides the climbing and belaying, their favorite thing of camp is…

…the KING SWING!

I consider this to be child bunji jumping at best.

They clip in, and jump off the 2ND story of the Quarry and continue to swing till their camp director instantly drops them to the floor,
