mr. and mrs. salas

December 27, 2009

this wedding was the highlight of our philippines trip last week. we were able to share in the beautiful celebration of lovella mercado & jeremy salas. lovella has been a dear friend of our family for years. dusty has known her and her family for about 15 years, and i have known her for about 13 years. She even lived with dusty, kiana, myla and i back when we lived in the philippines for six months in pro look’s early years. lovella and jeremy are childhood friends, but actually started dating while they were both nurses in london. dusty and i met jeremy in london when we took our 10th anniversary european trip almost 4 years ago.

i did it! i completely survived and even enjoyed my first international flight alone! i sat next to a guy who was not the friendliest, which was fine because i spent the bulk of my time reading and watching a movie. really, this is luxury time for a momma of four kids! i read, “three cups of tea,” and loved it. very touching, inspiring, and greg mortensen greatly reminds me of my bestie daphne who is a philanthropist at heart. i also watched this, and cried like a baby next to the not-so-friendly guy, it was apparent i made him slightly uncomfortable.

2009- “Rhodes Style”

2009 came and went like Ed Hardy Tee’s, Grandma’s Upset stomach or an In-N-Out high. So with excitement we are moving on with even higher expectations for 2010. Since the Rhodes’ are so dang *competitive we (dad) decided to hand out points to crown a champion of the year.

In 2009, Sela decided to test mom and dad’s resolve with potty training…1 point for Sela {unless you count each time she made us quit- then it would be more like 10-20 points.} She still loves her “pilley” and has especially loved sleepovers at grandma’s {which means a little more sleep in the morning for mom and dad.}

KJ has taken up tennis and has an Agassi like backhand…1 point for KJ.

MY FIRST
INTERNATIONAL FLIGHT ALONE!
one of our three flights is 13 hours. {alone.} no husband. no kiddies. just me and free time to watch movies, read, sleep, and get restless all on my own. it’s liberating and lonely all at the same time.
