my latest project in my sculpture class, was using oil-based clay to make human face features.

first we started with making large replicas of Michelangelo’s David.

then after practicing those facial features, we took our clay and put it on to a head stand to start our own self-portraits.

we just had the class critique on this project, and i took a group picture of most everyone’s portrait in the class. i numbered them, and can you guess which one is mine?click on the picture above to view it larger. i will post the answer soon!

3d design

November 7, 2009

my last two projects in my 3d design class…

the first below, is a 3d-banana. using matte-board and hot glue, we could choose any fruit or vegetable as our model but the focus of the project was recognizing the different planes on the object.

lesson learned: matte board is very difficult to cut.

next, just like this project i used plaster again, and we were assigned to choose any animal/human bone and make our own abstracted version.

lesson learned: wish bones are always meant to be broken. while in the process of carving, it broke four times. thank goodness for super-glue!

my cute little owl

October 25, 2009

is my first finished project in my sculpture class!

first we had to choose an animal .
then we had to make a maquette out of clay.
next we poured our plaster into 1/2-gallon waxed cartons,
and once the plaster was set we started chipping away with
chisel & hammer… till our little animals were shaped.
last we let it air dry and sanded away.

this project was so fun for me, total therapy to attend class and work on my little owl. i could make plaster owls all semester. how cute would a whole set be!?!

now we’re working on clay figures of the head,

in the rhodes home –

dusty has returned to “friday lunches with big papi!” this is a big benefit of papi’s offices being two blocks away from our kids school.

dusty either takes the kids their favorite fast food or checks them out of school for 30 minutes and runs them somewhere to eat.

this is definitely the highlight of their lunch-week!
