happy friday

{a little late.}

i took a spontaneous break from blogging. why? it was an accumulation of mild post-moving depression, and we had a 26 year old niece in a fatal car crash in Reno, Nevada – she left behind a beautiful three year old daughter and family searching to fill the void of her departure from this life. it occurred to me during all of this that the sun was shining and we were on the last month of summer vacation. at this moment, i decided to squeeze every bit of goodness out of what summer had left to offer. and i walked away from my computer.

and during this break, i totally skipped my first-friday-of-the-month ‘happy friday!’ post.

so, with my return to blogging today, i am starting with a late but loud, HAPPY FRIDAY!!! {on saturday night} via my home state. i am sitting in my sisters home in sequim, washington – and when i look up from my computer i have the most magical view of mt. baker across the strait of juan de fuca. while all is well at this moment, this post comes with a more grounded reality that due to this months events, i have been reminded that we never know what each day may hold. we never know when those we love will leave us. we never know when the goals we are working on will abruptly come to an end. we never know when an opportunity to improve or change our lives must be taken – so why wait? why wait to put-off anything? we should all put our depressions aside, put our ill-feelings aside – put away the mind-set of i’ll do it later. i’ll forgive them later. i’ll love them later. and do it now.

it is a cool coincidence that in the happiness project, gretchen rubin writes contemplate the heavens for august.

gretchen highlights the ideas of spiritual people being relatively happier – they’re more mentally and physically healthy, deal better with stress, have better marriages, and live longer. she discusses gratitude journals, and imitating spiritual masters.

have you read this chapter? what do you think?

my opinion? now is the time to be spiritual and happy, friends.

  1. I’m sorry for the loss of your niece. Moving is hard, no doubt about it. Be good to yourself.

    I live in Sequim, Washington and I have that same exact view from my house. That photo was taken from somewhere in my neighborhood and I’m wacking my brain trying to figure out the home. Your blog is one of my favorites and I would have never expected that we would have some type of connection. Small world.

  2. So sorry for your loss, Jane. I hope you are enjoying your time with your family and what’s left of this summer. Glad to see you blogging again.

  3. So sorry on the loss of your niece. The shock of losing someone in an accident is really awful. Condolances to your whole family.

  4. I’m truly sorry for your loss Jane.
    Thank you for mentioning the happiness project book, I’ve just ordered it and can’t wait to start reading it!
    I had never heard about it before :I’m French living in Paris and it hasn’t become popular here.
