Land’s Sake

June 22, 2012

we went strawberry picking last week with friends. the pickings were very very slim, but we still had a great time outdoors. the best part: we discovered land’s sake! a farm in the suburb right next to us. It’s only about 10 minutes away with a charming veggie stand, and all kinds of cool workshops and events.

once a month they host a supper club: a monthly series of gourmet dinners expertly prepared by a local chef featuring fresh produce from Land’s Sake Farm and other nearby farms. Each monthly three-course dinner at the Barn highlights a seasonal theme served family style to 40 guests in an historic tavern. how fun is that?!?

father’s day 2012.

June 21, 2012

Father’s day was full of sunshine, good food, good friends, and lots of love for our big papi. Like last year, we gave him a blurb-blog book. This was 2008, so we’re only 4 years behind. It’s magical looking through those pages, and seeing all the memories. Makes every minute I spend taking photos, editing, writing – so incredibly worth it.

We cherish our papi. He has always been a hands-on dad, involved in everything that goes on in our home. He works so hard and takes such good care of us. I love all the little things he does – last month he took sela to our neighborhood diner for breakfast,

miss fourteen likes to get fancy & go out. she especially likes to get fancy and go in to the city without her younger siblings. ::smiles:: so we were thrilled when we had the opportunity to see Boston Ballet’s Fancy Free at the Boston Opera House.

Fancy Free is a three-movement ballet, meaning there are three entirely separate ballets. It opens with Barber Violin Concerto, a company premiere choreographed in 1988 by New York City Ballet’s Peter Martins. A classical couple meets a modern dance couple. The modern couple was hilarious, I’ve never sat in a theater watching a ballet and laughed so hard in my life. truly awesome.

Pivot 2.0

May 12, 2012

This past Tuesday I attended the coolest event – Pivot 2.0. what is Pivot 2.0 you ask?

…a networking event for Boston women involved in business, technology, and social media. Pivot’s goal is to provide women at all stages of their lives and careers the chance to come together to network, share their stories, and eat cupcakes.

I heard about Pivot 2.0 via one of its team members Christine Koh of Boston Mamas. I am a contributor for Bostom Mamas, and I could not be happier that I decided to attend this event. It was networking at it’s finest!  Clearly, I had a good time:

Whitney Johnson,

Hello antique-thrifting friends! guess what? I went to my first antique show this week in Brimfield, Massachusetts. The Brimfield antique show. I am still a novice when it comes to shopping for antique/vintage items. I sometimes visit websites such as https://antiquesworld.co.uk/ to buy some new antique items, but I love visiting antique shows. I feel like I seem to find all the wrong shops or I don’t have an eye for what will blend well with the newer items I own. At Brimfield, there are so many vendors – you can find incredible goods all on one long street. The show offers block after block of tents set-up full of vendors selling every kind of antique you can imagine.

May 4, 2012

{new to see jane blog?  catch-up on happy friday’s here.}

friends, it’s may! we are almost half-way through the happiness project for 2012! for this month, Gretchen Rubin focuses on “Be More Serious About Play.” Leisure. what better month than may to focus on play? enjoy springtime! i’m keeping this short this month after my word-y past couple of months.

one of my favorite paragraphs from this chapter says,

Studies show that in a phenomenon called “emotional contagion,” we unconsciously catch emotions from other people — whether good moods or bad ones. Taking the time to be silly means that we’re infecting one another with good cheer,
