counting down…

The advent calendars are underway!
I found these really fun LEGO calendars this year.
KJ has an awesome boy-themed one and Myla has the total set-up in our pantry for her girl themed set.
By the time Christmas comes they will both have LEGO Christmas villages.
One of my dear friends also gave each of our kids their own chocolate advent calendars, so we are sure not to miss Christmas!There’s a good chance Sela will have all of hers eaten long before Santa’s big day!

Minus four people {Rachele, Rob, Kristin, & O’rien), these are all of the relatives I have that live in Utah.
My Mom {Patricia Thaanum}, who lives in our guest house…
my brother {technically half-brother}, his daughter & son Heather & Wil {my niece & nephew}, Heather’s husband Byron, and their baby girl Lilly all reside in Salt Lake City.

Byron, Heather, Lilly, Wil, Sela, Kiana, my Mom, Myla, John, me, KJ, and Dustywe had a yummy dinner and then went gingerbread crazy!
We made gingerbread houses, trains, people, trees…
Heather made a pomander, and Kiana got the idea to make an orange snowman!

we had so much fun putting up the Christmas decorations…

{no children were harmed in taking these pictures!}
The lights on our pre-lit artificial christmas tree burnt out two years ago, last year we just added lights to it to use again. But, mid-season those lights burnt out last year…

This year, we have a REAL Christmas tree! It smells oh-so-good. Our lights are “LED” lights and are really funky. we like ’em. They NEVER burn out, and don’t heat up. very cool. But, while wanting to freshen up my decor and wanting it to keep it simple, I opted to use only christmas bulbs on the tree… We then perused all over at the Christmas decorations available online and decided what would match our house,

is currently the show playing at “Kingsbury Hall.” in SLC.
{totally recommend going!}
Our dear friends have all three of their boys starring in the kids cast…

So, we kicked off the Christmas season by going with the Duckworth’s to dinner at Buca di Beppo’s and the show…

We made reservations for the “Pope’s room,” a round table that seats 12-16 people! We all got a good laugh at the statue of the Pope’s head in the middle of the table, it was a bit odd to have him staring you down while you were eating…dinner was delicious, as expected. As always, we ordered way too much food!

It was so much fun to have such a large group,

our neighborhood turkey bowl is one of our newest-favorite family traditions for Thanksgiving… this is the 2nd year we gathered at our neighborhoods large lawn and played football. every age plays. It was such a beautiful day for football!

the game…
there were a few rules
1. no adult could interfere with a childs attempt at catching a pass.
2. if an adult caught the ball if thrown to them, they had to run backwards.
{this was particularly difficult for me…}
