wikki stix are the perfect mix of toy and craft. my favorite part: they encourage the imagination, and they are not messy.  my myla is a big fan —

i just love walking through my moosey’s room and finding these wikki sculptures hanging around.  sometimes she is mid-project and I can see her mind at work or the wikki stix are literally hanging from things. Most of the time we are given these in restaurants and the kids play with them while we wait for our food. But lately, they like wikki stix so much i try to keep some in the art cupboard. Are your kids fans?

calafant :: toy review

May 15, 2012

we really can’t get enough cardboard around here. we upcycle cardboard boxes to create and we buy cardboard to create. when i stumbled upon calafant, i knew it was a perfect match for my kiddos imaginations…

myla is the perfect sis to assemble projects, and play with the younger kiddos.  since this has been put together i’ve spotted lego people living in the treehouse, each day their is a different little stuffed animal living in the treehouse.  it’s so cute!  my mom is visiting us right now and this past week i saw grandma’s glasses perched on the front steps – so there you have it – the cardboard treehouse has multiple purposes!

Boston Celtics

April 11, 2012

we finished our easter by checking one more thing off our “while we live in boston – adventures” list!

we attended a boston celtics game at the TD Garden as a family! husband, myla, and i had gone to a game together last month but the other three kiddos hadn’t had the experience yet.

fyi: if you attend a game, pre-game until the end of the 1st quarter there is free face painting near the doors for sections 14-15. they also hand out free shamrock balloons in the same spot!

sela was on the edge of her seat every time the celtics dancers took the floor.

confetti egg fight

April 9, 2012

easter eve afternoon, we were in tears from either laughing or pain… using *these.

*cascarones (kas-ka-ro-nez) are beautifully colored eggs filled with confetti and small toys traditionally made in mexico and central america to celebrate easter. easter confetti eggs are often broken over someone’s head as a symbol of good luck. the cascaron or confetti egg tradition is said to have begun in italy using hollowed eggshells filled with perfumed powder.

it seems myla is going to be very lucky! ::smiles::

planting wheat berries

April 5, 2012

last year, i had a spring party to plant wheat grass. this year, i could not find wheat grass seeds anywhere in new england. so, i chose to plant wheat berries {almost the same thing – i also used them for this recipe} instead. the only difference: you must soak wheat berries to help them start to sprout. this is not necessary with wheat grass seeds. fyi: you should be able to find wheat berries and/or wheat grass seeds for about $1/pound at most whole food/natural grocery stores.

our kiddos look forward to this little planting tradition every year + i like using the wheat grass for decor on easter sunday.
