krispy kreme donuts…

April 29, 2011

are what kj requested for his birthday treat at school this past week. sela spent the entire morning talking about visiting kj’s classroom for this event. then we arrived at kj’s school, she started her velcro-to-momma routine, but was still holding tight to a thick pile of donut hats that she planned on passing out to his friends…

then when it actually came time to pass out the hats, interact with the kids –

she retreated.

to the back corner.

almost in tears.

wayyyy to scary for a little girl with serious-social-anxiety!

right when i think she’s improving, maybe she is out-growing her shyness…she has a moment like this.

sushi dinner party

March 3, 2011

our daughter’s party was saturday night & on sunday evening we hosted a dinner party sushi-style to celebrate danny’s big 4-0. needless to say, it was one big weekend full of party love!

who is danny? well, if you are new-er reader to this blog… he is “our” bff. quite often known as “the howell boys,” because he has three handsome sons. these three boys are like three marvelous big brothers to kj. the howell boys even have a label, over ‘on the blog’ list because they are a very frequent visitor in our life.

have you seen the movie ‘you, me, & dupree?” well. yeah. that sums it up.

♥ a teen-y party ♥

March 2, 2011

ohhh, where to begin…

let me start a few months back. i had explained to kiana for months previous to her birthday, that we were simplifying everything this year – meaning: honey, you’re old enough that we can downsize with your birthday party. and, being the mature young woman that she is, she was totally content with that. she didn’t expect anything.

then, about a month ago, i told her:
ok, we will plan a fun afternoon with some of your besties. and that’s it.

and, she was ecstatic. couldn’t wait!

we made these invitations, she delivered them to eight friends &

.....

i’m thirty-five.
as in, almost twenty-four hours ago, i turned thirty-five.
and, i was shakin’ it with this iphone photo app, all weekend…

my entire weekend has been a celebration.
so much goodness jam-packed into three days.

how am i feeling? about this big three-five?

well, the first five years of my thirties were beautiful,
easy to age…as i kept adding those years.

this next five i might not take with such grace.
this three-five feels like the older-side-of-thirty.

but…

for now, i’m happily-thirty-five,

girls lunch on friday at smashburger…my choice of restaurant!

turning eleven, myla-style…

December 30, 2010

on the morning of myla’s birthday,
we had just a couple hours to spend with the bland family before they had to leave for the airport to return home…
{we’re very sad they are gone…}
and in that time, the kids all attacked myla with silly string on the beach –
she was a great sport about it, actually, loved it—

myla was determined to be super-lazy, she found a little cabanna all for herself, and set-up towels for her, kj, and sela – they had some serious itouch time, hidden out, together—

the two beach-side activity directors here put together a little kids sand soccer game for myla.

the after-party…

December 30, 2010

when all of our birthday parties come to an end,
it would be too sad to see it all leave too quickly.

so, i like to take all the balloons, gifts etc etc
and fill up the child’s bedroom with all the hoopla
to continue the celebration a few more days…

i love the idea that each time they walk in their room,
they might take in a huge breathe,
and think, “wow. this is awesome!”

anything i can do to extend a celebration!

{myla’s room after her pink panther party…a big pink poof!}
