Are you in need of a good ear cleaning?

We had the most interesting gathering last week –

Danny had been complaining about earaches, so I asked him if he had ever used
“ear wax candles” before…
He had not…

So, I made a stop into Good Earth, our local natural food store and stocked up on a bundle of Candles/Cones – this is what they look like. Hollow-taper-wax-candles-

the instructions/recommendations – {if you’re interested in extra information; click on image below for a larger view}

We had quite the turn-out at our house of interested patrons to get their ears cleaned!

fyi – I would say the average person gets about 1/2 tsp. of wax removed from each ear, it’s really incredible if you’ve never cleaned your ears with cones before. It’s recommended to do once a year…

Please note, the instructions recommend to not immerse your ears in water for 24 hours…

Our dear friend Mindy stopped by after the ear cleaning soiree and made a comment about going swimming… but she didn’t have a swim suit…which of course led to throwing her in the pool fully clothed – by Danny.

So much for clean ears!

  1. That photo of all the candles etc. Is hilarious! My sister swears by this method. She goes to a swim camp every year with her kids and so they do it then-hence all the water, and then she does it just before winter to her entire family and they NEVER get ear infections in the winter! Go figure.

  2. That is AWESOME!! I bet Mindy won the Wet T shirt contest! hehehe
We have tried the ear candles before but they didn’t work, maybe i was doing them wrong!

  3. My friend in high school used to use those candles…I was always grossed out to see all the wax that came out!!

Maybe you are starting a new trend – Ear Wax Parties!!

  4. We broke out the boat finally! We should plan a day and go down to the lake. we are always looking for friends to come with, its more fun that way.

  5. I have never ever heard of this before. Sounds like a great alternative. We will have to try it.

  6. I love those things. Curt and I used to do them all the time when we were first married. I love looking at the wax. I need to do it again, it has been awhile.

Tell Myla high for me. I am getting really home sick. I keep having dreams that I get back to center stage and they have given away all my classes. I know I’m pretty pathetic.

  7. I love ear candles, one of my favorite items from Wild Oats! It works with an earache too, kind of dulls the pain. It does make you feel a little crazy to have fire so close to your face, I kept telling Richard to make sure my hair didn’t burn. Glad to see others have enjoyed this experience!

  8. That is really cool. I would love to try it sometime.
I also loved the chalk festival pics. Amazing!
You are always doing such interesting things.
Can I be your friend? 🙂

  9. Oh my gosh! I have done this since I was a little girl. I’ve actually done it twice already this year! I’ve been thinking about adding it to my repertoire for my services I offer. Too funny!

  10. Who knew?
    I’ve never heard of this!
That pict of everyone hanging out under their plates is comical!!!
That is quite the turn out of folks interested in cleaner ears.

  11. I tried the candle thing once and it was absolutely disturbing how much stuff came out!

p.s. note to self. do not stand near Rhodes’ pool fully clothed!

  12. More proof that EVERYTHING is more fun at the Rhodes Home! Who ever thought to have an ear-candling Party?

  13. Sweet ear cleaning party! Mindy looks less than thrilled about being in the pool in her designer clothes!
