Thanksgiving : San Diego

San Diego November 2015 from Jane Rhodes on Vimeo.

In November we headed to San Diego to spend Thanksgiving with our friends. We’ve been friends with these two for twenty-two years and the friendship overlaps two generations. It’s good for the soul to be submersed in that kind of laughter, and love for a few days.

Side note: I don’t believe I’ve ever chosen to listen to Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus on my own – but when it was on the radio one day during our trip and the girls in the back seat were rocking out to it – it had to be the song for the video.

Myla and I went on our first Ordinary Hero mission in June. I still don’t have the right words for the experience. I shared a few of the highlights on instagram @see_jane, and I created the video above to remember as many details as possible.

I find my greatest confidence as a mom in the secret language I share with my children. During this trip that included Myla squeezing my hand when she was overwhelmed with emotions as she helped a child. A quick glance I would give Myla as children ran to greet us. Good night hugs that speak volumes. We have ways of letting each other know we need more or we’re getting enough.

moab | spring break 2015

April 12, 2015

We like Moab, Utah. So for the second year in a row we planned spring break in the land of red arches with friends and good food attached.

If you are thinking about going there, might I suggest:

Glamping at Moab Under Canvas.
Any and every meal at Peace Tree Juice Cafe.
Don’t miss the “Rotary Park” music park.
Rock climbing on “wall street” – shown at the beginning of our film.
Razoring on Hell’s Revenge – a 4×4 trail.
And obviously, Arches National Park and Canyonlands.

Razring in Sand Hallow via seejaneblogAs soon as the little retreat was finished in Cedar City we headed a bit farther South to spend the weekend in St. George. We chose to stay at the Sand Hollow Resort – they have villas for rent that fit our family with extra space. It was sunny, fun, and a good dose of family time! Without sounding to whiney – it’s less and less common these days that we get time together with all of us. We “divide and conquer” more and more often. Dusty has taken kids on the past two weekends to softball and baseball tournaments in St George while I stayed home for dance competitions, homework and other commitments. Dusty’s travel/work schedule.

I hope you all had a lovely holiday season. I hope it included time with friends and family, and you felt loved. And enjoyed as much time as possible being lazy!!!

We have returned home from our annual holiday pilgrimage to Cabo, Mexico. It was a brutal return to frigid temps here in Utah. So, we are holding on to these warm memories as long as we can!

Feliz Navidad! Feliz Ano Nuevo!!! xo.

*Santa brought all the girls Swedish Hasbeens in Mexico… we are all a family of has-beens now! 😉

Hey friends. On my last video post I had a few inquiries about how I create the videos. I’d love to give you a few tips, and answer ANY questions you have but keep in mind this is the short version of instructions!

1 – I use my iPhone 5S for ALL of my footage. (I am DYING to get my hands on the new iPhone 6 just because I hear the camera is so much better!!!) I shoot everything with my phone horizontally, always tipping my phone to the left – in the same direction each time I take a video. If you don’t shoot it the same way, you can later edit it and flip it around or zoom-in later in iMovie but it’s an extra step or two to do so.
