Razring in Sand Hallow via seejaneblogAs soon as the little retreat was finished in Cedar City we headed a bit farther South to spend the weekend in St. George. We chose to stay at the Sand Hollow Resort – they have villas for rent that fit our family with extra space. It was sunny, fun, and a good dose of family time! Without sounding to whiney – it’s less and less common these days that we get time together with all of us. We “divide and conquer” more and more often. Dusty has taken kids on the past two weekends to softball and baseball tournaments in St George while I stayed home for dance competitions, homework and other commitments. Dusty’s travel/work schedule.

A portrait of my children (and puppy), once a week, every week, in 2015.

Kiana: On the go. On the go. On the go.

Myla: Chill-laxin. This puppy momma was taking a break… She has been AMAZING with her puppy this week!

KJ: This dude. He’s a smart, sneaky one. Preface: Dusty Rhodes and I don’t allow the kids to purchase apps, new music, movies, etc. unless it’s a special holiday or they have paid for it themselves. Yet, at times the kids (namely: KJ and the teens) are trying to buy more virtual stuff than they are allowed to.

I hope you all had a lovely holiday season. I hope it included time with friends and family, and you felt loved. And enjoyed as much time as possible being lazy!!!

We have returned home from our annual holiday pilgrimage to Cabo, Mexico. It was a brutal return to frigid temps here in Utah. So, we are holding on to these warm memories as long as we can!

Feliz Navidad! Feliz Ano Nuevo!!! xo.

*Santa brought all the girls Swedish Hasbeens in Mexico… we are all a family of has-beens now! 😉

Big Love Ball

I don’t know how many areas of the U.S. or the world have this tradition? But here in Utah – teenagers and college students are really creative when they ask someone to a school dance.  Since I lived through this cultural custom growing up (and enjoyed it!) and I am now assisting my teenagers with the same tradition, I thought I’d start a series with original ideas of how to ask someone to prom! or Sadie Hawkins.  Or Morp (prom backwards). Or Sweethearts.  Or, Homecoming.  Or, whatever dances you may have at your local schools!

This past month, Kiana asked her friend Jordy to Sadie Hawkins.  Which is a girls-choice dance.  I had a friend tell me about the Big Love Ball a few weeks ago and the instant I saw it I’ve been looking forward to a good reason to use one!

We have deep soft spots in our hearts for the national guard. And it was an easy decision to pick this theme for our family this year – however, Mr. Rhodes was the most excited. He has said numerous times over the years that he wishes he would have spent time in the forces, and this guy was a kid at heart when it came to dressing up.

We took our family to the local Army/Navy store weeks ago to pick out these costumes and dog tags, we purchased some items used, and some new. Mr. Rhodes wanted all legit-used pieces,

Hey friends. On my last video post I had a few inquiries about how I create the videos. I’d love to give you a few tips, and answer ANY questions you have but keep in mind this is the short version of instructions!

1 – I use my iPhone 5S for ALL of my footage. (I am DYING to get my hands on the new iPhone 6 just because I hear the camera is so much better!!!) I shoot everything with my phone horizontally, always tipping my phone to the left – in the same direction each time I take a video. If you don’t shoot it the same way, you can later edit it and flip it around or zoom-in later in iMovie but it’s an extra step or two to do so.
