I finished reading A Thread of Grace, by Mary Doria Russell, the other evening. It is historical fiction based in Italy during World War II. It was interesting, because I apparently did not pay much attention to World History in high school. (And Chad says also apparently not to Corelli’s Mandolin – the book OR the movie). It involved characters of Jewish refugees as well as Jewish Italians and the people that protected them. As well as those who fought against the German once Germany occupied Italy.
I did have a hard time following some of the story lines, because there were several, and names and characters were often tied to one or more story lines. It definitely took me a while to read. I also think because I enjoyed some characters more than others. It was sad. I can’t even imagine living through this terrible war!
